A. ADMISSIONS

 

Q1: How to enroll as a Mainland Chinese Student (MCS)?

A1: A Mainland Chinese Student (MCS) is a recognised student status that enrolled via University Entrance Committee of Mainland Chinese Students.

Remarks:

i. Admission Qualification for Post-Graduates:

Household Registration shall be in the 8 stated provinces of Mainland China, Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Hubei, Liaoning and the Academic Certification shall enlisted in the List of Higher Education Recognition in Mainland China. 

ii. Admission Qualification for Under-Graduates:

Household Registration shall be in the 8 stated provinces of Mainland China, Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Hubei, Liaoning and applicants shall entered the Higher Examination of Mainland China with verified transcript.

Q2: Why I do not see the course(s) that I keen on?

A2: Because the quota and the courses open for offer are reconsidered and decided annually. So, please check on the lasted List of Offer by log in to University Entrance Committee of Mainland Chinese Students before application. 

 

Q3: How do I apply for Major Transfer to NCKU?

A3: Major transfer for Mainland Chinese Students are currently not avalaible in NCKU. Please apply via University Entrance Committee of Mainland Chinese Students.

 

Q4: Could Mainland Chinese Students having Part-Time Job in Taiwan?

A4: We are regret to say, according to Laws and Regulations stated, Mainland Chinese Students are not allowed to involve in any job offering whilst studying in Taiwan.

 

Q5: Do NCKU offers any Scholarships or Financial Assistance for Mainland Chinese Students?

A5: Yes we do offers NCKU Excellent Mainland Chinese Students Scholarship. Please refers to Scholarships for MCS for more informations.

 

Q6: Do NCKU provides any Accomodation?

A6: Overseas Chinese Students and Mainland Chinese Students of NCKU shall reserve the priority for accomodation application (except for BOT dormitory). For dormitory introductions and housing regulations, please refers to NCKU Housing Service Division.  

 

Q7: Mainland Chinese Students are not qualified for Taiwan National Health Insurance. Do I need to sign up for an overseas insurance before studying in Taiwan?

A7: Mainland Chinese Students shall all participated in "國泰人壽團體保險" for the entire study life in NCKU (NTD3,000.00/semester). Besides, all NCKU students are compulsory to participate in "學生平安保險“ (managed by Student Assistance Division). For more informations, please check on to Insurance for MCS and further overseas insurances are under self-consideration.

 

Q8: I am a future mainland chinese student of NCKU, what shoud I do next?

A8: Please refers to the documents given in the Admission Notice Package (including Offer Letter錄取通知書、Admission Notice入學通知 and softcopy of Reminders Before Coming to Taiwan). Upon arrival and settled down, please refers to Instruction of Registration to complete the Student Registration process.

 

Q9: Does NCKU provides transportation service upon MCS arrival?

A9: Overseas and Mainland Chinese Affairs Division (OMCSAD) offers only one united transportation service for MCS and OCS from Kaoshiong International Airport to NCKU main campus. Please refers to the Reminders Before Coming to Taiwan to apply in time(Transportation fee will be charged). Vary transportation options are also avalaible for new MCS.

 

B. STUDY LIFE IN NCKU

 

Q1: I am a undergraduate mainland chinese student, am I eligible to apply for minor program study, double majors study or interdepartment(major) transfer?

A1: MCS are allowed to apply for minor program study, double majors or major transfer, only for the course(s) that open for MCS on that particular academic year as the course(s) that open for MCS are vary in different year. For those who wants to apply for the course(s) that are not enlisted, please contact and inform OMCSAD priorly before the coming January, OMCSAD shall submits the case-based application to Ministry of Education. Overdue applications shall not attended.

For laws and regulations about any program study, applicants are encouraged to check on relevant information on NCKU Registrar's Division website or direct contact Registrar's Division Office.

Courses open for academic year of 2017: Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Psychology, Foreign Language Study

 

Q2: I am a postgraduate mainland chinese student, am I eligibe for interdepartment program transfer?

A2: Please refers to "Graduate Student Policies and Rules Chapter 4 Article 12" or contact NCKU Registrar's Division for inquiries. 

MCS are allowed to apply for interdepartment program transfer, only for the course(s) that open for MCS on that particular academic year as the course(s) that open for MCS are vary in different year.

 

Q3: How do I apply for Study Suspension or Study Dismissal?

A3: Before any application, please contact the person in-charged in OMCSAD for suggestions. If the conclusion is made, please refers to NCKU Registrar's Division website for more information or contact the Registrar's Division officer personally. 

 

Q4: How do I apply for Reenrollment after Study Suspension?

A4: Please contact NCKU Registrar's Division for the application. NCKU Registrar's Division shall sends you Reenrollment Notice if your are eligible for reenrollment. Please contact OMCSAD personnel upon receiving Reenrollment Notice for Taiwan Exit & Entry Permit application( Online application, duration:2-5 working days).If you're looking for Early Reenrollment, please contact NCKU Registrar's Division personally. 

*Online payment and Invoice issue are not available for Reenrollment Students, please inquires for the School & Miscellaneous Fee due from the Finance Cashier Division and makes payment upon arriving NCKU.

 

Q5: How do I go through Graduating/ Leaving School Process?

A5: General Procedure as follow:

1. Please log into Online Application System for Graduation from NCKU to fill in and print out the procedure appication form. 

2. Bring forward the appplication form to OMCSAD for stamp & chop approval, fill out the survey of Student Post-graduating Planning, and the estimated date of leaving Taiwan.

3. Bring the procedure application form over to NCKU Registrar's Division for stamp & chop approval and obtaining Graduation Certificate afterward. Bring the Graduation Certificate to OMCSAD for final confirmation and Student Graduation Report to Ministry of Education. After report is completed, graduation student from TaiwaN are eligible for Education Certificate Recognition in Mainland China.

* Graduates are recommended to makes photocopies(max:10 copies) of Graduation Certificate from Secretariat Office Documentation Division. Photocopies are having the SAME LEGAL VALIDITY as the original copy. 

*Graduates shall EXITS Taiwan within 30days after official graduation, Overstaying would be charged with fine. For more information, please refer to MAINLAND CHINESE STUDENT/ ENTRY & EXITS OF MCS AND RELATIVES.

 

Q6: If I would like to continue my post-graduates study in NCKU, Are there any ways besides apply through University Entrance Committee of Mainland Chinese Students

A6: Excellent mainland chinese students are always welcome to continue their post-graduates study here in NCKU. Qualified Mainland Chinese Students are eligible to apply post-graduates programs in NCKU according to National Cheng Kung University Requirements for Exceptional Students to Transfer Directly into Doctoral Program.For inquiries, please contacts NCKU Registrar's Division personally.

Notice that the Doctoral Program opens for MCS application are vary annually. Please contact OMCSAD if you're interested to apply Doctoral Program that are not in the open list AND the FACULTY accepted your application, OMCSAD shall asists in case-based report application to Ministry of Education.  

*If you succeed enrolled into a Doctoral Program, please contact OMCSAD a.s.a.p for Offer Letter mailing, Taiwan EXIT & ENTRY PERMIT(入台證) & PASS MAINLAND RESIDENTS TO TAIWAN (大通證)renewal or extension. 

 

Q7: How do I carry out my Taiwan Education Certificate Recognition in Mainland China?

A7:

1. Refers to your nearest "海峽兩岸招生服務中心" to certifiy your Taiwan Graduation Certificate and issue a certify testimony.

Q11: Do Mainland Chinese Students Allow to apply for Internship?

A11: Internship is Allow under the conditions of Course Study (part of the requirements of Program/ Paper Study/ Graduation) & Service Study ( to improve society welfare and NON-PROFIT activities)

 

Q12: Do Mainland Chinese Students have any Association or Organization in NCKU.

A12: Mainland Chinese Students are having the rights as students to participate in any certify clubs or organization in NCKU. In 2015, under the consultant of OMCSAD, 成功大學陸生會(學位生)was officially established. All undergraduate Mainland Chinese Students are welcome to the association.

 

Q13: How do I apply if my family relatives would like to visit me in Taiwan?

A13: They could apply for 大陸來台自由行 or 大陸地區人民入出境證(家長入台證) Entry & Exits Permit for People of Mainland China ( Parental Entry Permit). The Entry & Exits Permit for People of Mainland China are only applicable for the Student's Parents, Grandparents, Offsprings and Partners, Siblings are Not eligible to apply. Q14:What if my Taiwan Exit & Entry Permit(入台證) & Pass Mainland Residents to Taiwan (大通證)is damaged or loss? 

A14: 

1. Taiwan Exit & Entry Permit (入台證): Please heads to National Immigration Agency First Tainan Service Station apply for replacement. For more informations, please refers to MAINLAND CHINESE STUDENTS/ ENTRY & EXITS OF MCS AND RELATIVES.

2. Pass Mainland Residents to Taiwan (大通證):Please contact Straits Exchange Foundation (海基會),02-2175-7000 for assistants. Documents required including Letter of Petition, Photocopy of Lost Report (or Damage Report), Photocopy of Mainland China ID, Photocopy of Taiwan Exit & Entry Permit and Ticket of Leaving Taiwan.

 

Q15: Do NCKU provides service of authorised application for Taiwan Exit & Entry Permit? 

A15: For new students, application shall be submitted through OMCSAD. For more information, please refers to MAINLAND CHINESE STUDENTS/ ENTRY & EXITS OF MCS AND RELATIVES.

For senior students, Application shall be completed by him/herself or submit directly to the Personnel during the In-Campus application service on the beginning of the semester.

 

C. LIVING LIFE IN TAINAN

 

Q1: How do I apply a Mobile Line? 

A1: According to the Laws and regulation of Taiwan, for application of mobile line, one personal ID number (統一證號) shall only register one mobile number line under a Mobile Communication Company. Two official credential certificates shall be present for application. For more informations, please inquires the nearest mobile communication company service center.

Qualification:

1. 20 year old and above

(i) First credential certificate: Passport (validity > 3months)

(ii) Second credential certificate: Taiwan Exit & Entry Permit or Pass Mainland Resident to Taiwan (validity > 3 months)

(iii) Verification of Student Status: Certified Testimony from Registrar's Division/ Stamp-proved Student ID copy/ Offer Letter.

(iv) Guarantor/ Deposit: For application of Registered Mobile Line, a guarantor ( >20 year old, Taiwan Nationality, Legal Capacity) shall signs along on the agreement and deposit shall be made based on company's regulation.

2. Under 20 year old

(i) First credential certificate: Passport (validity > 3months)

(ii) Second credential certificate: Taiwan Exit & Entry Permit or Pass Mainland Resident to Taiwan (validity > 3 months)

(iii) Verification of Student Status: Certified Testimony from Registrar's Division/ Stamp-proved Student ID copy/ Offer Letter.

(iv) Statutory Agent: Applicants under 20 year old despite nationality, a legal statutory agent shall required during application. For international students, requirement of Statutory Agent requirement might exempted depends on Mobile Communication Company.

(v) Guarantor/ Deposit: For application of Registered Mobile Line, a guarantor ( >20 year old, Taiwan Nationality, Legal Capacity) shall signs along on the agreement and deposit shall be made based on company's regulation.

 

Q2: How do I open a Saving Account in Bank or ChungHwa Post?

A2: Prepare and Submit the following Documents upon Application

1. Single (Multi-) Entry Permit

2. Official Personal Stamp

3. Verification of Student Status 

4. Second credential certificate ( Passport, ID card of Mainland China, Pass Mainland Resident to Taiwan or other legal identification supporting documents)

*Opening in a saving account in ChungHwa Post (NCKU division) is strongly recommended, as statutory agent is exempted for applicant under 20 year old. Besides, scholarships and insurances claims are normally transact throungh ChungHwa Post.

 

Q3: How to obtain a Taiwan Driving License?

A3: If you are having:

1. Driving License ( Motorcycle/ Car) of Mainland China:

After getting your license certified from the Notary Public Office in Mainland China or Straits Exchange Foundation in Taiwan, You may apply through Motor Vehicle Service Office in Taiwan ( medical chekout and written test are needed except for Road Test)

2. International Driving License of Mainland China:

The license is NOT recognisable in Taiwan.

3. Driving License of Other Mutual Recognised Country:

After certification of License, a direct application of EQUIVALENT License is allowed with no test required.

4. International Driving License of Other Mutual Recognised Country:

Apply for International Driving License Visa through Motor Vehicle Service Office (maximun valid for 1 year)

5. No Driving License:

Attend Driving License Test (professional Driving License is not allowed). Qualification Requirements as follow:

  • at least 18 year old
  • supporting document for reside in Taiwan over 1 year (eg: multiple Exit & Entry Permit)
  • Learning Certificate( at least 3 month learning of Driving) for Car Driving Test; No Learning Certificate needed for Motorcycle Driving Test.
  • Half- Length Photo (within 6 months, white background, no cover on head)
  • Medical Report from qualified medical center.

 

Q4: How to Purchase a Vehicle? 

A4: Purchasing and Registration is allowed for international students.

Document Required:

  • Taiwan Exit & Entry Permit (validity > 6 months)
  • Valid Driving License
  • Verification of Student Status

Mandatory Insuranse is compulsory for every Registered Vehicle and Vehicle Scrapped or Transfer of Vehicle Ownership shall be done before Exit Taiwan. 

 

Q5: Where could I have a Second-Hand Bicycle?

A5: Refers to the announcement of Military Training Office website, and receive your bicycle in that period of time.
